ACID Who are we ?

ACID is a film directors association that promotes cinematographic diversity in movie theaters and organizes the encounter between a film, its author and the audience makes the film director, their works and their public meet. The strength of ACID is its founding principle what makes us strong is our founding principle : film directors, french or foreign, are supported by other film directors.

How ?
Every year, ACID support 20 to 30 full-length movies, documentary and feature films. Before the release, the film directors of the association write promoting texts. Then, ACID promotes the film close to150 independent movie theaters. At the release of the movie, ACID can help with additional copy prints and promotional leaflets for the audience. ACID then organizes, and financially supports, about 150 debates, readings, concerts, in presence of either the film director, the screenplay writer, actors, music composer…, in movie theaters in France or during festivals.

ACID has partnerships worldwide with about 20 festivals and cultural venues, that systematically screen the supported films. Acid organizes the artist’s journeys trip when they are invited in festivals (with the support of Unifrance and CNC International). In the Ile de France Region, Acid remunerates film directors for their participation to debates.

In Paris, ACID and “Ecrans de Paris” organize the “Rendez-vous of Independent Cinema” at the Majestic Bastille, Escurial and Reflet Médicis every weekend, starting in june 2008.

ACID program in Cannes
Every year, ACID presents 9 films in Cannes during the festival. Most of them do not have a distributor. The aim is to give visibility and public release to new talents. ACID’s support does not stop after the presentation in Cannes. In partnership with 35 festivals, ACID presents the movies in France (Paris, La Rochelle, Lussas, Pau, Belfort…) as well as abroad (Montreal, Bratislava, Tübingen, Linz, Prague, Lisbonne, Peasro…). This international opening is reinforced by a partnership with an independent international film sale company, Insomnia Word Sales.
ACID helps the director and its production to find a distributor in France and when one is found, ACID works on the release as referred before. Several now famous film directors were programmed by ACID in Cannes at their beginnings, as Arnaud et Jean-Marie Larrieu, Avi Mograbi, Robert Guédiguian, Gérard Mordillat, Jean-Pierre Thorn, Nicolas Philibert, Yolande Moreau, Gilles Porte, Serge Bozon, Vincent Dieutre, Lucas Belvaux, Claire Simon, Alain Gomis…

In Cannes, ACID also supports a film of the Semaine de la Critique’s selection, in partnership with CCAS. A jury, composed by director’s member of ACID and a representant of CCAS, awards 8000 euros to the selected film.

Our Cannes program will be shown in the fall, at the Cinéma des Cinéastes in Paris and in 15 theaters in the parisian area. For the first time, it will also be shown in Italy (Pesaro Festival) and in Switzerland (Geneva).
