ACID is an association of film directors which, for 22 years, has been promoting the cinema distribution of independent films and encouraging debates between the authors and the audiences. The strength of ACID is its founding principle : the support given by filmmakers to other filmmakers, French or international.
Every year, ACID supports 20 to 30 feature films, fiction and documentary. ACID works with : cinemas : ACID aims to build the exposure of films over time, primarily in small and medium-sized cities, to ensure that all audiences have access to films. Working closely with distributors, ACID promotes films among cinema programmers in over 300 independent venues (partners and/or members).
In order to facilitate this exposure several months after the film’s national release and to appeal to various audiences, every year ACID organizes over 300 Q&A’s, readings and concerts with directors, scriptwriters, actors, composers. Every week, ACID and The Écrans de Paris organize the “Rendez-Vous du Cinéma Indépendant” in Majestic Bastille and Escurial in Paris.
The films supported by ACID are viewed throughout the year by programmers from fifty festivals worldwide. It allows these partners to discover and access films that often do not have a distributor or a sales agent. Once the films are programmed, ACID organizes and covers the filmmakers’ trips, thus giving them the opportunity to meet international audiences as well as professionals. Each year, over 100 encounters are initiated by ACID in Montreal, New York, Busan, Buenos Aires, Beijing, Istanbul…
audiences : ACID has created a network of audience members. Education is also an important part of the activities of ACID through partnerships with boards of education, high schools, universities, cultural associations as well as the organization of screenings for schools or workshops in vacation centers and penitentiaries. ACID also publishes pedagogical documents when films are released.
ACID ALSO WORKS on political proposals to improve the distribution of independent cinema ; a place of solidarity where filmmakers of all generations and backgrounds come together.
