Mauvaise Étoile avance dans le jour avant de nous plonger dans la nuit. Au travers d'une famille se tisse une toile qu'il faudra un jour déchirer. Ce qui agit au cœur des personnages est invisible, diffus mais n'échappe pas au regard lucide d'une petite fille. Tous.tes gravitent autour d'une situation banale, violente. Et c'est peu à peu que la nuit s'installe, que l'emprise apparaît, avec une distance aussi fine que juste. Lola Cambourieu et Yann Berlier placent leur caméra là où le probable devient réel, et la tension se construit autour d‘un homme qui exerce la dureté de sa psychose et de sa paranoïa. Le film accompagne avec finesse cette traversée insensée dans une quasi-unité de temps en se tenant aux côtés d'une femme dont la conscience tente de s'éveiller des sables mouvants.
Le film nous conduit dans les méandres et les mécaniques à l'œuvre depuis des lustres et qui exercent sur les corps et les âmes des blessures profondes. Dévoilées ici dans un mouvement cinématographique implacable et d'une grande précision, qui déplie un inquiétant ballet des ombres, et convoque une fin qui a la beauté d'être aussi inattendue qu'inévitable.

Under a Bad Star starts in daylight, before drawing us into the night. Through a family, a web is woven, that one will have to tear apart someday. The characters are driven by an invisible, scattered force, yet a little girl sees through it. All of them revolve around a situation that is both mundane and violent. Gradually, as night falls, a form of control emerges, observed from the right distance. Lola Cambourieu and Yann Berlier set their camera where the plausible becomes real, building tension around a man who exerts the brutality of his psychosis and paranoia. The film subtly follows this senseless journey through the hours, standing by a woman who struggles to surface from the quicksand of consciousness.
The film draws us through meandering mechanisms that have long inflicted deep wounds on bodies and souls. Revealed through a firm yet sharply controlled cinematic movement, it unfolds a troubling ballet of shadows, which culminates in an ending that holds the tragic beauty of being as unexpected as it is inevitable.
